Moses came down the mountain with two stone tables twice!
The first time Moses came down with two stone tables is the foreshadow of the First Coming: The Child of Bethlehem and the Man of Sorrow.
God wrote His Law on two stone tables that Moses was to bring down from the mountain.
Exodus 32:15,16 And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written. 16 And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables.
Moses came down with the Ten Commandments of God twice: The first time Moses came down with the two stone tables and broke them because he was furious. The reason Moses was furious the Hebrew people asked Aaron to make them a god from their golden earrings; a god that so-called delivered them from bondage out Egypt.
Exodus 32:19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses’ anger waxed hot , and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.
Moses breaking the two tables the first time represents: Luke 22:19 And He (=Lord Jesus) took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it and gave unto them, saying. This is My Body Which is given for you: this do in remembrance of Me”.
The Birth of Lord Jesus Christ was proclaimed by the angels to a few shepherds tending their sheep by night.
Luke 2:8,9 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
He was a Man of Sorrow but knew no sin, suffered and died on the cross and was buried in a grave that was not His Own.
—Matthew 27:59,60 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
The second time Moses came down with the two stone tables is the foreshadowing of the Second Coming. The second time God did not write the Ten Commandments as He did the first time but God let Moses do the writing.
Exodus 34:27 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.
That dark night on Golgotha the greatest triumph that ever happened took place. God’s Only Begotten Son fulfilled God’s Law till the very end and to perfection conquering sin and death. Moses’ face was shining when he came down from Mount Sinai for the second time. This event represents the Second Coming of Christ. Because then Lord Jesus comes back in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory (Matthew 24:30)
Exodus 34:29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.
Persons in the OT are a representation of Jesus Christ. Events in the OT apply to Israel but certainly are also a prophecy and a foreshadow to the NT and pointing to the time to come.
