Revelation 16:16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
The Battle in the Valley of Armageddon. For shadow in the OT. Persons in the OT are pointing to Lord Jesus Christ. Events in the OT are a foreshadow in the NT and for the time to come. This is called typology. David and Goliath and Elijah on Mount Carmel are typologies of the final battle that will take place in the Valley of Armageddon.
Ecclesiastes 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done; and there is no new thing under the sun
David and Goliath
The Philistines on a mountain on one side, the Israelites on the other side. A valley named Elah was in between them. Goliath a giant with a height of 6 cubits and a span and armed with a coat of mail, his spear head weighed 600 shekels of iron.
to read 1Samuel Chapter 17 verse 4 And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. verse 7 And the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him.
Type of the anti-christ whose number is 666. Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
David the man after God’s heart. A young shepherd probably 16 or 17 years old slew a lion and a bear. Revelation 13:2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
God was the Shield of David. The young shepherd chose five smooth stones out of the brook. Five smooth stones; although the number five is the number for grace, the number five also represents death.
With the staff in his hand, David was hasting to the army to meet Goliath. He took one of the stones out of his bag and slang it. The stone hit the forehead of the Philistine and maybe right between the eyes. The giant fell on his face before David. The fact, however, is that Goliath knelt before God as David came in the Name of the LORD of Hosts. Philippians 2:10 That at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.
Elijah on Mount Carmel
When we look down from Mount Carmel we can see the Valley of Armageddon beneath.
Elijah, servant of God against the 850 Baal priests of Jezebel*. After crying out to Baal all day long and also cutting themselves their god did not answer. It was all in vain.
Elijah built the altar out of twelve stones and filled up the trench with ample water so that it was overflowing. The servant of the Lord of Hosts called out to God. The response came instantly; a blazing fire, totally consumed the altar and the sacrifice.
The twelve stones of the altar representing the twelve tribes of Israel. In the New Jerusalem, there is a high wall and written on that wall are the twelve tribes of the children of Israel. Revelation 21:12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
Where the water came from after 3 years of drought I honestly don’t know as it hasn’t rained as yet.
*Jezebel is a representation of the woman riding the beast; she is moveable. Proverbs 5:1-6
