The Two Witnesses

To read: Revelation 11:3-11

Moses and Elijah are the two witnesses who will prophesy

Both Moses and Elijah appeared on the Mount where the Transfiguration and glorifying of Jesus Christ took place.

Matthew 17:1-3 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, 2 And was transfigured before them: and His face did shine as the sun, and His raiment was white as the light. 3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with Him.

Both Moses and Elijah through God were able to perform miracles.

Moses, the Lawgiver.

Moses was called by God to lead the Hebrew People out of bondage Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and He said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

Signs and wonders of God and the ten plagues in Egypt: to read Exodus 7:19-25, and the chapters 8 thru 10. Exodus 7:2,3 Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land 3 And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt

Through the LORD Moses was able to divide the Red Sea with his rod and guided God’s people on dry ground. Exodus 14:16 But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.

Through the LORD Moses was able to get water out of the rock with his rod. Exodus 17:5,6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel 6 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go

Elijah, the Prophet.

Through God Elijah stopped the rain for 3 1/2 years. 1 Kings 17:1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before Whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.”

Elijah and the baal priests on Mount Carmel: 1Kings 18:37,38 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. 38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench

Through God Elijah received fire from heaven: 2 Kings 1:12 And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

Through God Elijah was able to give the life back to the son of the widow of Zarephapth 1Kings 17:22
And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

History is repeating itself:

Both men saw the Glory of God. MOSES in Exodus 34: 4-8 Moses asked to see the Glory of the Lord. He was standing at the entrance of the cave when the Glory of God passed him by.  ELIJAH in 1Kings 19:9-14 Also Elijah beheld the Glory of the Lord, however, there was a difference. Just before the Glory of the Lord passed a great strong wind was released, that crashed and shattered the rock, but the LORD was not in the wind; neither was He in the earthquake that followed; the fire came but the LORD was not in the fire. After the fire he heard the small voice the LORD .

Two references of Moses and Elijah in Malachi the last Prophet of the LORD

Malachi 4:4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

Moses

Elijah

  1. So you believe the two witnesses will be Moses and Elijah? The story of these two in the end times is both peculiar and amazing.
